National leaders play a vital role in spurring the development of their country. Many countries have seen positive changes in their prosperity. The vision and commitment of national leadership in many advanced countries has radically changed their people’s way of life, security, and stability. Consequently, the need for national leaders is crucial as it is a key component in the development of any country. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the role played by Malaysian national leadership in ensuring the success and achievement of World-Class university status in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach - A survey was administered to the top management of university staff such as Vice chancellors, Deputy vice chancellors, Associate vice chancellors, Deans and Deputy Deans. The study was conducted at Twenty-Eight established universities (20 public and 8 private) in Malaysia, yielding a total sample of 126. Findings – The second-generation analysis using SEM-PLS indicated that there is a significant result which showed the impact of national leadership as moderator on the relationship between the variables i.e. Concentration of Talent, Favorable Governance, and Abundant Resources, on University status at 0.05 structure level, two-tailed test. Practical implications – Based on the findings, the Malaysian national leadership proved to be an important factor in achieving world-class university status. Therefore, this study has important implications for those who wish to build successful universities and could be the basis of any developing country aiming to achieve world-class university status. 2019 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed pdf en http://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/26776/1/67.%20The%20moderating%20role%20of%20malaysian%20national%20leadership.pdf pdf en http://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/26776/2/67.1%20The%20moderating%20role%20of%20malaysian%20national%20leadership.pdf Basheer, Al-haimi and Daing Nasir, Ibrahim and Mohd Rashid, Ab Hamid (2019) The moderating role of Malaysian national leadership on achieving university world-class status: An empirical result.
