Summary: | Mechanics of sinkhole is physics concerned with the behavior ofphysical bodies when subjected to external forces or displacements, and the subsequent effects of
the bodies on their environment. The physical bodies that mentioned in this study were in the form of limestone residual soil overlying the karst formation. The karst formation is usually presence in the soluble bedrock such as limestone and dolostone. The limestone and dolostone formation is rieh in carbonate minerals such as calcite and dolomite can be soluble when subjected to aeidie groundwater. The karst formation exists in unique form such as pinnacle, overhang, floater, cliff and cavity. Among of these karst formations, the cavity is the most vulnerable to the geohazards. The geological hazards that is referred to, is the sinkhole ineidence.A sinkhole is a phenomenon where a natural depression or hole in the Earth's surface oecurred due to several reasons. Before sinkhole ineidences happen, there is an initial condition in the ground, which is underlain by soluble bedrock and topped off by its residual soil. This initial condition in the ground could lead to sinkhole ineidence when subjected to these two processes known as karst process and suffosion |
