The study addresses the following issues: (i) what can we learn from patents and patent citations about international knowledge flows and cross-national technological cooperation in ECA? (ii) How does openness to trade, participation in global supply networks, and investment in human capital, via on-the-job training, enhance knowledge and technology absorption in ECA-region manufacturing firms? How does foreign direct investment (FDI) stimulate acquisition of managerial and technical skills, new machinery and equipment, and market development? 2012-05-25T18:28:11Z 2012-05-25T18:28:11Z 2008 http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/2008/06/9596769/globalization-technology-absorption-europe-central-asia-role-trade-fdi-cross-border-knowledge-flows 978-0-8213-7583-9 http://hdl.handle.net/10986/6445 English en_US World Bank Working Paper; No. 150 CC BY 3.0 IGO http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/igo/ World Bank Washington, DC : World Bank Publications & Research :: Publication Publications & Research :: Publication Europe and Central Asia
