The paper finds that economic shock increases refugee’s exit and disproportionately reduces their consumption expenditure and aid received from the host community. In addition, bad and good economic cycles create asymmetric impacts. While negative shocks affect the economic outcomes of two communities homogenously, it hurts social cohesion between them. In contrast, economic recovery benefits refugees relatively more in terms of consumption and income, but the impact on social cohesion measures is insignificant. The findings also suggest that in turbulent economic times, both inter-community and intra-community inequalities go up. 2022-02-03T15:03:20Z 2022-02-03T15:03:20Z 2022-01 Working Paper http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/311771643289939369/How-Do-Shared-Experiences-of-Economic-Shocks-Impact-Refugees-and-Host-Communities-Evidence-from-Afghan-Refugees-in-Iran http://hdl.handle.net/10986/36916 English Policy Research Working Paper; No. 9915 CC BY 3.0 IGO http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/igo World Bank World Bank, Washington, DC Publications & Research Publications & Research :: Policy Research Working Paper Middle East and North Africa South Asia Afghanistan Iran, Islamic Republic of
