Description
Summary:Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate the tear lipid floating time (LFT) using dynamic fluorescein test. Method: Three hundred and twenty-one subjects with 642 eyes were included in this cross-sectional study. A subject was considered having dry eye if the tear film break-up time (TFBUT) and schirmer test with anaesthesia values were less than 5 seconds and 5mm/5 minutes respectively. A fluorescein strip was wetted and instilled on each eye. The spreading particle with oily texture of tear film is considered as lipid floating and the duration of movement was taken until it stabilized. The assessment was conducted using slit lamp videographer. Results: The mean of LFT was 1.65 ± 0.85 seconds. The mean of LFT among non-dry eye group was 1.70 ± 0.90 seconds while 1.60 ± 0.80 seconds for dry eye. No significant different was found between both groups (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The dynamic of lipid floating can be assessed utilizing clinical technique which is fluorescein dynamic test. However, the floating time of lipid between non-dry and dry eye was almost identical.
