Creating a new normal for AFM services: 3D laser scanning to BIM for LCC application on built asset

Application of 3D laser scanning or Scan to Building Information Modelling (Scan-to-BIM) refers to the process of 3D laser scanning of a physical object that creates an accurate digital representation of the object. The representation of the object can then be used for planning, designing, assessing...

Although the benefits of LCC application in AEC industries have been well identified and recognised, lack of experts prevented LCC from being widely practiced. As a consequence, its benefits have not been materialised in the AFM services industries. The survey studies Scan-to-BIM for LCC application in order to explore its capabilities that can aid AFM service provider increase efficiencies in their work deliverables that would be an added value for clients and the stakeholders. While LCC is identified as a value enhancing service, there has been limited study on how LCC application could be leveraged to increase efficiency in AFM services. Thus, the aim of the study is to investigate how Scan-to-BIM for LCC protocol can be effectively utilised by AFM services provider. In particular, the study explores a Scan-to-BIM protocol based on LCC technological solution to introduce within the BIM-LCC supply chain to deliver the Employer’s Information Requirement (EIR) that work collaboratively within a Common Data Environment (CDE). The idea is to introduce new LCC-BIM protocol for AFM services embedding real-time monitoring and future cost estimating projection capabilities within a CDE. This enables integrated AFM feasibility analysis adding on an unconventional AFM services to develop asset classification, modelling and exchange standards and protocols for Malaysian AEC industries. 2018-10-08 Conference or Workshop Item NonPeerReviewed application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/66830/1/NAFAM2018-041-005_HAZMAN_FAIRULLAZI.pdf application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/66830/11/66830_Creating%20a%20New%20Normal%20-%20abstract.pdf Hazumi, Hazman and Ayob, Mohd Fairullazi and Md Sharif, Harlina (2018) Creating a new normal for AFM services: 3D laser scanning to BIM for LCC application on built asset.
