Summary:The main aim of this study was to measure the effectiveness of a phonics intervention programme for a group of school age children with hearing loss using spoken language to establish phonemic and phonological awareness through the learning of phonics. Relating to this aim, the following general research question was generated: To what extend can phonics intervention help establish phonics skills among children with hearing loss who use spoken language? The factors crucial for the understanding of the nature and abilities of children with hearing loss, the significance and design of various phonics method and tools, and the range of skills required to sucessfully master English phonics are explored in the following chapter.
