Summary: | The main purpose of this study is to explore the positive and negative effects of the internship experience on the behavioural intentions of students in Applied Arts and Design (AAD), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The result of this study is to understand the directions of the graduates in the present and the next 5 years market needs. The studies are also to find out five major outcomes; experience, affective direction, physical, hard and soft skills knowledge, supervisor input and willingness to recommend the internship organisation to other students. Therefore, internship students have begun to work with industries for 5 months; the students can observe business operations and real work environments. However, students are having a problem with placements due to limited choice of Consultants companies for their workplace learning and training placements for the past 3 years. These issues make it difficult for IIUM, AAD students to get their placements due to high competition as there are more than 72 Art schools base in Malaysia that coincide their internship between September to January each year. To overcome the issue, the faculty and the department needs to rectify the situation by widening the scope selection of the considered companies to include Contractor, Developer, and Specialist product, Supplier, Factory or Manufacturers, Showroom, trading, Enterprises company and any other related to ID businesses are subject to Department approval. In other word the students will get more choices of companies and various type of knowledge and outcome duration the internship. The effects will be positive or negative, however the results to be analyzed further and its will be as a starting point to the Faculty and Department action plan specifically. The methodology considers conducting access audit at case studies, observations, interviews and design course outline recommendation on the analysed data with references to Internal and external report, department Board of Studies, Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and other Standards related society. These issues are the department’s primary concern on the future AAD graduates based on the current demands; furthermore, the course outline needs to be reviewed and analyzed from the respective person Board of studies, authorities, government body and society, so that they will be in line with the market needs.
