We present a case study assigned to a group of fourth year medical students during their orthopaedic posting as part of the Triple IO programme. The patient was a 17-year-old boy who sustained cerebral concussion and closed fracture of his right radius after a motor-vehicle accident. He appeared drowsy and had some degree of disorientation. The injuries were confirmed by diagnostic investigation. He was admitted to the ward for further management. A full-length cast was applied onto his right upper limb. Students were given half an hour to discuss and demonstrate on how to perform ablution, tayammum, and prayer in such condition. This practical session was guided by a fiqh scholar from Kulliyyah of lslamic Revealed Knowledge (lRK). Discussions on various opinions of religious scholars were highlighted and the most convenient opinion was chosen as the recommended method for the patient. At the end of the practical session, facilitators were able to evaluate and enhance students' knowledge and practical skills in terms of appropriate orthopaedic procedures and appliances for such condition, as well as matters related to performance of religious duties during illness. From the feedback we obtained, students gained more confidence and had the opportunity to experience themselves the difficulties faced by the patients enhancing sense of empathy in them in addition to knowledge gained. 2013-08-26 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/31830/1/POSTER_IOHK_05-_IBADAH.pdf application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/31830/2/IOHK_2013_-_ABSTRACT_BOOK_COVER.pdf application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/31830/3/ABSTRACT_IOHK_05-_IBADAH.pdf Sharifudin, Mohd Ariff and Che Ahmad, Aminudin and Abdul Rahman, Ahmad Fadhil and Jeffrey, Mardhiah and Zabidi, Siti Nur Azreena and Ibrahim, Ahmad Syahid and Mohamad Sha, Shazwan and Mohd Rafee, Adilah Rafi'ah and Zainun, Norsafina (2013) How to perform religious duties in time of illness.
