The specimens were taken using skin punch biopsy and were routinely processed for light microscopy. The mean endothelial cell count (ECC) was performed by calculating all the endothelial cells of the 3 selected arterioles in each slide of every patient. The mean endothelial cell thicknesses (ECT) of all endothelia were measured using the image analyzer. Results There were significant differences of ECC and ECT between the groups determined by one-way ANOVA (F(2,27) = 5.31, p = 0.01 and F(2,27) = 52.42, p < 0.01 respectivel)y. There was no significant differences of ECC and ECT between neuropathic and neuroischemic; p = 0.99 and p = 0.18 respectively.
